The National Registrar of Records headed by Registrar is looking after the survey and registration of Historical records/documents/manuscripts and rare books in the state and requisite data submitted to the National Archives of India, GOI.

Implementation of Antiquities and Art Treasures Act,1972.

Unlike other States the Act is also applicable to the State of Jammu and Kashmir and being implemented by two Registering Officer Antiquities ,one each at Srinagar and Leh. After conducting survey the antiquities as defined in the Act are registered by the Registering Officers in their area of jurisdiction.The registration certificate is issued to the owner of the antiquity and one copy is sent to Central Data Bank maintained by the Archaeological survey of India , New Delhi .Approx.6000 antiquities have been registered till 28th Feb 2013.
